I don't think people really fully appreciated what an amazing advocate for the common social good they had with Howard Cosell. He had the kind of moral compass and character traits that define what a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee should be about.

In 1994, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognized Howard Cosell's accomplishments with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

It is a rare ability for a sportscaster to overshadow the game itself. By all accounts, Cosell had this singular ability.
